The entire month of October is designated as the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is an annual campaign that has dedicated especially to propagate knowledge and awareness of this disease. In a country like India, breast cancer is still an alien concept for a larger section of the mass. It is compounded by false notions in the mind of people. Though instances of breast cancer are gradually on the rise, ignorance is widely prevalent in throughout the population of the country. Statistics shows the US, China and India bear the one-third of the global breast cancer burden. According to the World Health Organization, for the year 2012, an estimated 1,44,937 women in India were detected with breast cancer and an estimated 70,218 died of it.
Breast cancer today, can happen to any woman at any age. And in most of the cases, it can go undetected. So be alert, be aware and let us all try to fight this disease that has become a menace worldwide. Only awareness can help us curb the disease.
