A Shiv Sena worker has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a female traffic cop after she stopped him for talking on mobile phone while driving.
The incident took place at around 11 am on Thursday morning when a Shiv Sena functionary Shashikant Kalgude (44) driving his SUV while chatting on his mobile phone .The 29-year-old constable (name withheld) signalled Kalgude to stop his vehicle. The arrogant Kalgude ignored her and tried to drive past another vehicle. Eventually, Kalgude had to stop his SUV after the female cop came in front of his vehicle. He slapped and punched the female traffic cop while the passersby stood mute spectator. An advocate finally intervened into the matter and took the accused to police station.
The female traffic constable, who was bleeding profusely, registered a case and the accused was arrested. Kalgude has been booked under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 354 (molestation) of the Indian Penal Code.
