While Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Zuha or Eid ul-Adha worldwide, the Jammu and Kashmir government has banned internet services in the Valley with apprehension of misuse of data services by anti-national elements.

An order, signed by IG, Police Javed Gillani, has been issued to all internet operators in the state saying “internet use is likely to cause deterioration in law and order situation”. All service providers have been asked to shut down data services through GPRS/2G/3G and broadband from 5am on September 25 to 10pm on September 27.

The decision was taken at a security review meeting in the light of the high court order reiterating a pre-Independence order banning the sale and slaughter of bovines in the state. Across the world, Muslims sacrifice animals during Eid-ul-Zuha, and people in the Valley are likely to defy the court order and slaughter bovines.
