In a shocking incident, a migrant worker from Bihar was strung up by his legs and hands from the ceiling, upside down, and was beaten mercilessly with an iron rod in Amritsar. The man has been identified as Ram Singh who died later.

Wife of the deceased Raji said her husband was working in a factory. Few days back there was a theft in the factory and her husband was being blamed.

“Some people came to our house and threatened my husband,” she said, adding: “On Thursday few people came to my house in an Innova car and forcibly took him with them. Later they beat him mercilessly, threw on road. His body was recovered from T Point at Mheta Road.”

SHO of Mohkampura police station Narinder Kaur under whose area the incident happened, said a case has been registered under Section 302, 365 and 34 of IPC against Jaspreet Singh and two unidentified persons. All accused are absconding.

A 47-minute video clip, believed to be shot by a factory worker on a mobile phone, went viral on social media even as police are trying to find out who filmed it.
