World Cartoonist Day is observed on May 5. This day honours all cartoonists, past and present, the talented works they have created and the humour they have brought into our lives.

In 1990, the National Cartoonists Society of America proclaimed May 5 as National Cartoonist Day which is later being celebrated worldwide. Now cartoons are a core component of many newspapers, publications and printed media, and have had (and continue to have) a huge impact on our culture.

Watch some cartoons of legendary Indian cartoonist RK Laxman who died at the age of 94 following multiple-organ failure. Laxman, the brother of the late novelist RK Narayan, was renowned for holding up a mirror to Indian daily life and politics.
