In a bizarre incident a 53-year-old man chopped off his wife’s head and was seen walking on the street of Pune holding the severed head and the axe he used to behead her. The man, Ramu Chavan, who works as a watchman in a housing complex, apparently suspected his 45-year-old wife was having an affair with her son-in-law and took the extreme step, according to an FIR filed by police.
TV channels aired footage on Friday showing the culprit, clad in a white dhoti and kurta, was walking on the street with the severed head in one hand and the axe in the other as two policemen tried to reason with him. Several passers-by and motorists were looking on as the policemen led him away. He has been booked under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
