Women in far off Tarihal village go 40 to 50 ft down to fetch water! Yes, that’s true. Severe shortage of water and acute drought have forced these women to climb down the only well in the village to get water. This is a traditional well built in old style – with uneven rocks. Women wait in the long queue to get into the well to fill water. They use the rope to climb down the well which is 50 ft and fill water with a mug and send back the pot to the top where other women will be waiting.

The government is sending water in tankers, but the villagers say that water isn’t fit for consumption.

“They think water supplied through tanker is hard and not good for consumption. Hence, they are fetching the water from well,” said the gram panchayat officers.
