The first glass-bottomed suspension bridge in China, which was opened to tourists on September 20, sent a shock wave among tourists on Tuesday after one of its panes developed cracks leading to a minor stampede.
The 600-feet-high and 1,000-feet-long glass bridge is terrifying to look down while walking on the bridge, dubbed as ‘Haohan Qiao’ (Brave Men’s Bridge). A visitor who claimed to have witnessed the scary moment, posted about the incident on social media platform Weibo.
“I heard a bang from under…Everybody is screaming. I cried, ‘It’s really cracked! It’s really cracked!’ And pushed the people in front of me to get away.” A netizen posted thus on Weibo, a Chinese version of Twitter. He later deleted the post, saying he was too much bothered by media.
As per a report on People, reporter from cnr.cn contacted the staff of the Yuntaishan resort, who confirmed that the path had indeed been broken and that it has been closed for the time being. Tourists have been evacuated on scene.

“My foot shook a little. I looked down and I saw that there was a crack in the floor,” Hai wrote.
“A lot of people started to scream. “I screamed out, ‘It cracked! It really cracked!’ and then I pushed the people in front of me so that we could run out of the way,” he said.

Yuntai Mountain tourism bureau’s spokesperson told the People’s Daily Online the incident happened after a tourist accidentally dropped a stainless steel mug on the walkway.
