In a shocking incident a 13-year-old student of ninth standard gave birth to a baby in the washroom of her school in Telangana. The incident did not occur in any remote village but in Madhapur, the IT hub of Hyderabad, housing many global IT giants.
“She complained of stomach pain and went to the washroom on Saturday. After sometime, the students and teachers heard cries of a newborn baby and were shocked to find the girl with the baby. Both the mother and the baby girl were handed over to police,” Malkajgiri’s deputy educational officer (DEO) A Usha Rani said.
The school headmaster has been suspended and class teachers are issued showcause notice as to why they could not notice pregnancy of the girl.
“She is very slim and would walk with a dupatta on her stomach and she would sit with her bag on her lap, so we didn’t know,” the girl’s teacher told NDTV.
Based on a complaint by the girl’s father, police have registered a case of rape against a person known to the victim.
