Anaya Ellick is the winner of a national handwriting competition. What makes this 7-year-old from Virginia’s story stand out is that she was born without hands. And she has shown remarkable determination by winning a national handwriting competition.
Her parents are in awe of her accomplishments and how motivated she is to succeed. In order to write with perfect penmanship, Anaya holds a pencil between her two arms and stands at her desk to get the proper angle needed for writing. Anaya’s teachers believe her drive helped her overcome her disability. Anaya’s penmanship was part of the category that encourages children with cognitive delays, intellectual, physical or developmental disabilities.
She beat 50 other children from across the country who had taken part in the competition. Her principal describes her as an “inspiration”.
