Villagers protesting against brutal rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in Manipur.

Imphal: In a grief reminder of the Nirbhaya incident in Delhi, a six-year-old girl was raped twice and inserted a hard object in her private part by a minor in Manipur, left unconscious in a pool of blood in a paddy field assuming she was dead. The girl battled for life for two weeks and died at the RIMS hospital on Sunday.

The incident occurred at Chinikon village under Bishnupur police station on February 14 last. The girl had suffered grievous injuries in her urinary tract and intestine. Villagers alleged she was not provided proper treatment at ICU, and blamed the hospital authorities for her death.

The girl was staying in her aunt’s house at Chinikon village and went missing from around 6 pm on February 14. After a frantic search, she was found unconscious in a pool of blood. Villagers said the teenager attempted to murder the victim after raping her twice and abandoned her assuming she was dead.

Soon after news spread about her death, a large number of villagers took to streets and blocked roads in the state capital, demandeing strictest action against the juvenile accused and enquiry into her treatment in the hospital. Police later picked up some of the representatives to the CM whom they wanted to submit a memorandum. But the CM was busy with a legislature party meeting and refused to meet them, stoking their anger further.
