Bollywood star Deepika Padukone collected the Best Actress award at the Filmfare Awards on January 15 for her stellar performance in Piku, a film about the relationship of a young woman with her father. She read out a letter from her father and badminton ace Prakash Padukone as her acceptance speech onstage.

Fighting back tears, Deepika read out the letter which talks about Mr Padukone’s early badminton days and his refusal to complain or whine about challenges.

“There is no substitute for perseverance, hard work, determination, and passion for what you do. If you love what you do, nothing else matters,” Deepika read out aloud.

In the letter, Mr Padukone also expressed his early fears and subsequently overcoming them when a young Deepika decided to move to a big city to pursue a career in modeling.

“If you succeeded it would have made us proud but even if you didn’t you would not have any regrets that you didn’t try,” she read. Watch the emotional and inspirational video and read the letter below.
