Indian cricketer Amit Mishra has been booked for allegedly sexually assaulting an woman in a Bengaluru hotel room and is summoned by the city police for questioning.

Mishra was in Bengaluru last month to participate in a training camp and the woman had met him in his hotel room. The woman later filed a case against the cricketer who has been selected in the Indian squad for the first two Tests against South Africa.

As per media reports Bengaluru Police have collected CCTV footage from the hotel that showed Mishra assaulting the woman. Police said the incident took place in front of the hotel’s staff members and they have testified in the case.

“We have shot off a notice, summoning India cricketer Amit Mishra for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in the city last month,” deputy commissioner of police (Central) Sandeep Patil told a news agency.

Mishra has been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 328 (causing hurt with intent to commit an offence).

Mishra has been asked to appear before the city police in a week’s time failing which strict action would be taken against him, added police.
