Olympic medalist Vijender Singh made a rocking debut on Saturday in pro boxing by demolishing his British opponent Sonny Whiting ruthlessly at the Machester Arena. Whiting had promised earlier to put the Indian boxer through hell.

Vijender literally pushed Whiting on to the ropes and won the contest in the middleweight category in the third and penultimate round via Technical Knockout. An amazing combination of jabs and uppercuts triumphed Vijender amid cheers from the much delighted crowd as the referee stepped in to stop the contest.

The debutante looked confident from the beginning. In fact, it was Whiting who looked unsure of how to tackle the 29-year-old Indian boxer who was full of clinical action, much to the surprise of all. Vijender thanked his fans after the victory and called upon his supporters to watch his next game on October 30 in Harrow.

“Thanks to all my fans. My next fight will be October 30 in Harrow, enjoy it. It’s new for me but I’ve been working hard. It’s going well, I want to win! That’s just the beginning,” said the Haryana lad.

Bollywood star Salman Khan, who has been training hard to play the role of a wrestler in his upcoming movie Sultan, had wished Vijender on Friday for his debut: “all d best @boxervijender for ur first pro fight tmrw . wl watch n cheer.”
