At least 92 people were killed and 200 injured in a fire that broke out in a temple in south Kerala early on Sunday. Fireworks during an ongoing festival at the Puttingal Devi temple in Kollam district’s Paravur triggered the tragedy around 3:30am.

Blasts caused by the blaze affected the densely-populated surroundings of the temple and people inside a 2km radius.

According to police, the shed where fire works were stored got fire leading to an explosion. The firework started around 1am marking the conclusion of temple festival.

Seriously injured people have been admitted to government medical college, Thiruvananthapuram. Others have been admitted to various hospitals at Meeyapuram and Kottiyam.
