China has just opened its first glass-bottomed suspension bridge to tourists in central Hunan province. The 600-feet-high and 1,000-feet-long glass bridge is terrifying to look down while walking on the bridge, rightly dubbed as ‘Haohan Qiao’ (Brave Men’s Bridge).
The bridge links two peaks of Stone Buddha Mountain at Hunan’s Shiniuzhai National Geological Park and is made of 24mm thick glass. It was previously made of wood, but 11 engineers working 12 hours a day converted it to glass.
A worker involved in the construction told China News Service: “The bridge we build will stand firm even if tourists are jumping on it. The steel frame used to support and encase the glass bridge is also very strong and densely built, so even if a glass is broken, travelers won’t fall through.”
