Four minors from Mumbai’s Malad gang raped a class 10 student from their neighbourhood, shot a video of the crime and threatened to circulate if she complained. The girl chose to not disclose but the accused put the video on WhatsApp and it went viral. Her aunt chanced upon the video clip on her phone and informed police.

“We immediately filed an FIR and sent a team to nab the minors. All the four have been sent to remand home for juveniles as they are minors,” senior police inspector at Malad police station Shashikant Sandbhor said.

The rape took place on November 8. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of protection of children from sexual offences (POCSO) act and rape under the Indian Penal code.

Under Indian law, juveniles can be punished a maximum sentence of three years in a reform home, not a prison.
