Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA from Kalwa, Mumbai constituency Jitendra Mwhad is facing flak for urging a teenage girl to beat up a boy, who had allegedly been stalking her for some time. Awhad can be seen in a video encouraging the girl to thrash her alleged stalker in his office located in Thane, on the outskirts of Mumbai. The incident was reported to have occured on Monday evening. As the news hit the headlines, Awhad reacted saying that he did not regret his actions. He defended himself saying that the girl in question had been depressed because of the boy.
India Today reported lawmaker Jitendra Awhad as saying that the girl was being tormented by the teenage boy and that she had even been feeling suicidal as a result. Awhad was reportedly approached by the girl as a last resort to seek respite from the constant harassment. He told NDTV that the underage girl was being relentlessly pursued by the boy, who was allegedly forcing her to be in a relationship with him. Therefore, he felt that he did the right thing and even defended his actions to the channel. ”If the media thinks I have committed a crime, hang me,” Awhad told NDTV.
