Rejecting media reports that Yogeshwar Dutt’s bronze medal in the 2012 London Olympics may be upgraded to Gold, the United World Wrestling (UWW) announced Tuesday that the Gold medal winner Togrul Asgarov of Azerbaijan never tested positive for a banned substance.
The world wrestling body said on Twitter: “Contrary to news reports, 2012 Olympic gold medalist Togrul ASGAROV (AZE) has never been in violation of UWW’s anti-doping policy.”

Also, Dutt’s Silver medal decision is not yet final pending report of his dope test from the 2012 Games. Dutt made headlines following WADA reports that the Silver medal winner Besik Kudukhov had failed the dope test.
However, Dutt had suggested the medal might stay with the family members of Kudukhov on humanitarian ground as the latter died in a car crash in 2013. Kudukhov was a four-time world champion and two-time Olympic medallist.
As per WADA’s revised norms, samples taken for dope tests from international tournaments are now been stored in deep freeze up to 10 years to allow use of advanced technology, available with the passage of time, to catch the dope cheats and ensure “the clean athletes get justice even if it comes a bit late”.
