Vidhya Kunj School, located in Surat’s Adajan area, has come up with a unique method to deal with misbehaving schoolchildren. The primary and secondary students, here, are made to drink bitter juice extracted from the neem leaves, as part of the punishment.
The principal Mahesh Patel of the school thought of experimenting with the bitter neem juice, which has “incredible health benefits”. The misbehaving students are given a cup full of neem juice and asked to consume at one go. The juice is so bitter that the students, especially those who do not like the bitter taste, vow never to repeat the same mistakes again.
“Neem juice is incredibly healthy for the human body. It has anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties and fights against many diseases, including cancer. I consume neem juice regularly, and so thought that my students should also get bitter and healthy punishment,” says the principal.
Divya Shah, mother of Sagar, who studies in Class VI says, “My son came home and told me about the neem juice punishment. The next day I went to the school and was thrilled with the unique experiment. They prepare the juice in the school premise on daily basis and give it to the students misbehaving in the class. My son does not like drinking the juice and he is doing his homework regularly.”
