Amritsar’s 79-year-old Mohinder Singh Gill and wife Daljinder Kaur had been childless in their 46 years of marriage. But when they came across a Haryana-based fertility clinic’s ad, they decided to take another shot at parenthood with IVF treatment.
And it worked. Kaur gave birth to a healthy boy on April 19 in Haryana’s National Fertility and Test Tube Baby Centre, which “offers fertility treatment to women who are decades beyond their menopause”.
While Kaur’s exact date of birth is unclear, her age is being calculated on her statement that she is “around seven years younger than her husband”. In that case, 72-year-old Kaur would be the world’s oldest mother. Currently, that position is held by Barcelona’s Maria del Carmen Bousada Lara, who gave birth to twin boys in 2006 at the age of 66.
