A watch that allegedly costs Rs. 70 lakhs is finding itself in the middle of a political storm in Karnataka. It began when the Janata Dal Secular’s H D Kumaraswamy said the timepiece, seen on the wrist of chief minister Siddaramaiah, cost that whopping amount.
Several theories are being floated on who gave Siddaramaiah the watch. But no one, including JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy, who first revealed the watch’s value, has certain proof about the person who gifted it to the CM. Kumaraswamy has said he will dig it out and will make the matter public.
Siddaramaiah had said he was not aware of who gave it to him. A complaint has already been filed by a city-based activist with the state Lokayukta on the matter, while Governor Vajubhai Vala is also said to be examining a petition complaining that the CM had violated laws by sporting an imported watch that does not have required documentation.
