Faraz Ahmad, 18-year-old never thought that getting one clicked with B Chandrakala, the district magistrate in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr, would land him in jail for three days. The boy had reportedly tried clicking a selfie with the official despite repeatedly being told not to. An upset Ms Chandrakala then pressed charges against the boy who was sent to jail. He was let off bail today.

Defending its action at a press briefing, a district administration official said, “The District Magistrate has over 4.5 lakh followers on Facebook but this does not mean anyone can dare to click a selfie with her. Under the law, a man can’t even stare at a woman if it makes her feel uncomfortable. This sort of behaviour cannot be tolerated.”

Ms Chandrakala had shot to fame in 2014 when a video of her scolding officials for a poorly constructed road, went viral.
