Twenty-seven years ago on this date, December 01 was recognised as the World AIDS Day to provide an opportunity to people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV and commemorate people who have died from AIDS.
This day serves as a reminder to the public and policymakers that HIV has not yet gone away — there is still a need to sustain awareness and education, fight prejudice, and improve prevention and care efforts.
Michel Sidibe, UNAIDS Executive Director, says: “All our energy and commitment will be required to reach the goal of ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030 as part of the SDGs.”
